The creative studio DIGRAPH, founded by designer Hiromasa Fukaji and programmer Junichiro Horikawa, will be holding their exhibition “CODE TO GRAPHIC” at our creative studio “CONTRAST” from Saturday, May 3 to Sunday, May 11.
This exhibition explores the concept of “CODE TO GRAPHIC”—creating graphic expressions through programming, which is a hallmark of DIGRAPH’s creative process. A diverse range of works will be presented, each highlighting the unique beauty and character that emerge from various programming methods. Central to the exhibition is DIGRAPH’s signature technique, Plotter Drawing, which pushes the boundaries between digital and physical. Through this method, the artworks are imbued with subtle physical irregularities and singular textures not found in digital displays or printed media.
As a new initiative, the exhibition will also feature works inspired by CTG (Computer Technique Group), a pioneering force in Japanese computer art during the 1960s. DIGRAPH finds strong resonance with CTG, who similarly broke the boundaries between art and design through the use of computers, and also employed plotter technology in their work. In this exhibition, DIGRAPH reinterprets CTG’s iconic “Kennedy Series”, creating new works that pay homage while offering a fresh perspective. More than half a century since CTG’s groundbreaking activities, DIGRAPH revisits their legacy to reflect on its own identity and position, and to propose new ways of thinking about digital creation.
We invite you to experience DIGRAPH’s ever-expanding world of creativity and experimentation, where programming and graphic art intersect and evolve.

DIGRAPH
DIGRAPH is a creative studio founded in 2023 by designer Hiromasa Fukaji and programmer Junichiro Horikawa. The studio explores new forms of expression through both computational processes and hands-on experimentation. By combining algorithmic approaches with digital fabrication tools such as plotters and 3D printers, they seek to create works that merge the digital and physical realms.
Their projects range from self-initiated exhibitions, such as “NATURE / CODE / DRAWING” (Tokyo 2022 / Paris 2023) and “We are Computational Craftsmen” (Tokyo 2023)―to collaborations including interior artworks, branding, and the launch of the ceramic label ComPotte. Through both research and commissions, the studio continues to expand its creative scope across disciplines.

Hiromasa Fukaji
Designer / Graphic Researcher
Born in Osaka in 1990. Fukaji conducts research into new forms of graphic expression, centering on a method he calls “Plotter Drawing,” which uses a plotter—a device that converts and outputs vector data—to generate accidental expressions at the boundary between the digital and the physical. He has received numerous awards, including the Cannes Lions, The One Show, New York TDC Award, and D&AD Awards.

Junichiro Horikawa
Programmer / Algorithmic Designer
Born in Tokyo in 1984. Horikawa holds a Master’s degree from Columbia University GSAPP’s AAD program. Drawing inspiration from geometry and natural ecosystems, he has long been engaged in the generation and study of various forms using algorithms. He regularly shares tutorials and live streams on algorithmic design via his YouTube channel. His work has received recognition from awards such as The One Show and the Japan Media Arts Festival. He is the author of “Parametric Design with Grasshopper” and “Algorithmic Design with Houdini”.
