NOLL is a creative unit that pursues art and technology to create new possibilities for a new age, and they will exhibit its new work “LIKE” and previous work “Reincarnation” on March 25th, Saturday and 26th, Sunday at the creative studio “CONTRAST” run by IN FOCUS.
“LIKE” is an installation work that takes as its theme today’s streamlined love life, and makes non-existent digital humans perform the cycle of “love” and “procreation” with each other through a virtual dating application.
Since the birth of dating apps, the hurdles from meeting to nurturing love have been lowered, and a different process of romance has emerged than in the past.
Love is changing from “LOVE” to “LIKE”.
In this work, smartphones with virtual datings applications installed and automatic swipe machines are displayed in various frames, and the app automatically makes a “LIKE” or “NOPE” decision based on the similarity of image color, etc between digital humans that do not exist. Once there is a match, a new digital human is born that inherits the characteristics of the two and grows rapidly until it is old enough to use the dating application. The semi-permanent repetition of this cycle makes it possible to look down and appreciate the streamlined “love” and “reproduction” of today.
We consider this transformation of the modern love system as the first step toward a realm beyond the reach of mankind, and express its sanctity by placing a smartphone and an automatically controlled swiping machine in a picture frame, like a painting of a scene in which Adam and Eve met.
Even “love” as an innate basic impulse is a human being who intervenes and streamlines his/her intelligence, which is different from that of others.
Viewers will have a bird’s eye view of the inorganic love cycle streamlined by “LIKE,” and will be left with their own thoughts about contemporary society and the future.
